Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become the buzz word in the market in the recent past. MBA students of BSBS Business Academy have redefined social service by defining the society to be served by them- ‘the student community’.
This initiative is attempted at creating awareness among the student community and disprove the demand-supply myth- the myth about insufficient jobs as against the supply. The fact is the other way around- there isn’t enough employable supply against the everyday emerging demand!
An extensive orientation in over 20 colleges in Coimbatore followed by a large Placement Drive on 29th and 30th of January 2011at GRD College of Science reinforced the ‘Opportunities Galore’ to commerce and management graduates of Coimbatore. The results of the Placement drive would undoubtedly revive the demand for Commerce and Management Courses as against Technical Courses.
The event attracted around 1500 students from 25 colleges in and around Coimbatore. The list includes Sri Krishna, PSG, RVS, GRD, Krishnammal, Avinashilingam, Hindusthan, SNR, SNMV, Bishob Ambrose, CMS, Bishop Appasamy, Narayana Guru, VLB Janakiammal, KPR School Of Business, NGM Pollachi, Bharathiyar University College Gudalur, Tirupur Kumaran etc..
BSBS Believes that India can make it in the international arena only when the youth population turn productive. 56 students got placed in Ernst & Young for a package ranging between Rs. 2.1lacs to 2.4lacs. The students from BSBS Business Academy returned home with a sense of satisfaction for having contributed to the likely family incomes of 56 families by turning the passing out graduates ‘productive’ (results in higher disposable income) that contributes to the growth of the Nation.
BSBS students had the privileged opportunity of being part of a live project with a company which owns brands like ‘Santoor’ which is the largest selling soap in India! When the pioneer in organized apparel retailing, SSL planned to open its 26th store in the country in Bangalore's most conventional market, Malleshwaram (which is less traversed by aggressive modern marketers), the company's Regional Team trusted the strengths of BSBS Team and awarded this project. The deliverables of the research based on primary survey of over 1000 plus consumers of the proposed catchment (Malleshwaram) was expected to throw decision-enabling insights to the Regional team to strategize and plan its launch and promotions.
How did the BuSiBeeS (BSBS students) who were less than three weeks old in the campus, majority of whom were stepping on the Bangalore roads for the first time ever, conduct a professional interview with working professionals and smart ladies in the shopping centres? How did they enter the qualitative data into the excel sheets? How did they analyse the huge qualitative data captured on demographic, entertainment, shopping and lifestyle related data to arrive at insightful information for the company? The pioneer in sugar production and marketing in India, EID parry is also the pioneer in refined sugar production in the country with a 600 tons production capacity. Its retail brand in the refined sugar category named ‘Parry’s Pure’ wasn’t building the volumes required to exploit the installed production capacity. The fact that only 35% of the country’s sugar production is consumed by the retail/ household consumers, it was imperative for the sugar major to explore possibilities with its existing consumer segments for ‘refined sugar’.
Invariably, 50% of any sweet is sugar. With this industry getting into the organized fold with raising consumerism and ever growing modern food retailing industry, Parry India awarded this project to BSBS student Researchers with the intention of capturing the sugar usage pattern and process among leading sweet-meat manufacturers of Bangalore.
The in-depth research carried out by seven BSBS student researchers after a Pilot Research set the road map for the Company’s headway into this potential consuming segment where appearance and quality are of utmost significance in addition to the taste of sweets.
What did it take for the BSBS student researchers to enter the kitchens of Kanti Sweets, KC Das, Nandhini Sweet, Asha Sweets and few other organised players in the industry? Who were the Senior Managers of EID Parry to whom the market insights were presented? Which were the leading sugar distributors present during the presentation? The name synonymous with ‘Enterprise Voice Solutions’ in the Indian market, ‘Siemens’, when intended to take its innovative UC solutions to its customers, awarded this prestigious project to BSBS student researchers. A variety of sectors across the industry was allocated among the researchers’ groups viz. Project/ Architectural Consultants, Medical/ Healthcare, Hospitality, IT firms for a structured interview with the purpose of capturing the current services being used for their voice as well and data needs.
The information obtained from over 200 potential customers purposively selected for the research was analysed and the insights were presented by the student researchers to the Regional Team of SEN at their esteemed office in Bangalore.
